Dr. Bob Cloninger discusses why Pennsylvania lags New York in dairy metrics
Our call with Dr. Robert (Bob) Cloninger last night was a totally wonderful discussion and education on the dairy industry in Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bob gave us great perspective on the dairy situation during this COVID pandemic, and how in some ways it paralleled what happened during the 2009 recession where restaurant traffic also fell. He told us that although dairy farms have been urged to cut production, 15% in some cases, it’s actually very difficult to efficiently do that.
We talked about the great mystery of milk pricing, and whether there was anything that could be done about it. (Maybe not??!!)
Lastly, I put up this AgChoice slide that shows the disparity of the dairy sector New York to Pennsylvania. I asked Dr. Bob for his thoughts on why PA wasn’t more competitive. It's land prices, land prices, land prices...
